The PRO-RECTORARE OF RESEARCH AND GRADUATE STUDIES

PROPEG

The Pro-Rectorate of Research and Graduate Studies (Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação-Propeg) is an executive sector that aims at fostering scientific activities concerning social and regional development. The way it operates is based on the construction of pillars that include the achievement of favorable results to the increasement of science. Thus, it allows a policy of teacher training/development, meeting the aspirations of contemporary times, namely to provide the University with masters and doctors able to conduct high quality.scientific research work.

RESEARCH GROUPS

The Research Groups constitute academic bodies formed by professors, researchers, students and technicians, aiming at scientific, technological, artistic and cultural production.

The research groups are structured in concentration areas (Life Sciences, Health Sciences, Exact and Earth Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences and Applied Linguistics, Letters and Arts), to which lines of research are linked.

The initiative of institutionalization and monitoring of research groups aims at strengthening scientific and technological research production of University faculty in order to favor the creation and consolidation of graduate programs at masters and doctoral levels.

Nowadays, the Institution has the following research groups:

SCIENTIFIC INITIATION PROGRAM

UERN SCIENTIFIC INITIATION PROGRAM (PROGRAMA DE INICIAÇÃO CIENTÍFICA DA UERN – PIBIC)

The Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Scholarships (Programa de Iniciação Científica da UERN-PIBIC) aims at investing in scientific orientation, preparing university students for their inclusion in the scientific universe, both in basic and applied research. These initial goals have been expanded and diversified throughout PIBIC history, not only to meet the demands of the scientific community but also of other segments of society. Thus, in addition to representing the first stage in a scientific career, scientific initiation has become a synonymous of opportunity and better qualification in all areas of knowledge. Therefore, it has allowed access and integration to scientific culture, qualifying professional people for greater insertion in a society that is increasingly driven by scientific and technological knowledge. More recently, scientific initiation has also extended its actions and activities to high school, being its main focus on education leading to science. This investment is represented different research methods, in addition to the participation in events aiming at scientific dissemination.

Scholarship Program of Initiation of Technological Development and Innovation (Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação em Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Inovação PIBITI)

The Scholarship Program of Initiation of Technological Development and Innovation (Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação em Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Inovação-PIBITI) was created in 2010 with the objective of contributing decisively to the training and engagement of human resources in research, technological development and innovation. This program focus on educational and research institutions, that deal with technological and innovation areas and that have proven to maintain interaction with companies and social organizations. The PIBITI also creates more defined space of action, specifying consistent criteria and indicators associated to the technological and innovational sector.

Scholarship Program of Initiation in Affirmative Actions (Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação nas Ações Afirmativas PIBIC Af)

In 2009, PIBIC-Af was implemented as a complementary action to the policies of inclusion and democratization of Higher Education and of Science, Technology and Innovation. System. CNPq (National Council of Research) and MCT (Ministry of Science and Technology) launched this program in order to stimulate technical and scientific training of students entering universities through affirmative action policies. The program, which follows the same procedures as PIBIC, aims at helping to promote equity in higher education and greater democratization of the space of scientific and knowledge production, allowing the interaction of researchers with realities brought by scholarship holders.

Scholarship Program of Initiation in High School (Programa de Bolsas de Iniciação no Ensino Médio – PIBIC EM)

Launched in June 2010, the most recent program created by CNPq intends to involve higher education institutions in the development of science education projects with high school students in state schools of education, military, private and technical application. The selected institutions will be responsible for quotas stock IC and to establish a program of scientific and technological education with students, in partnership with high schools. UERN the first quota established a partnership with the state schools Prof. José Nogueira and Freire Abel Coelho. The initiative aims at strengthening the process of disseminating of information and basic scientific and technological knowledge, in addition to develop attitudes, skills and values that are required by scientific and technological education. Currently, the quotas are distributed by campuses.

Residence Program

Medical Residence in Family Medicine and Community Program - UERN / PMM

The Specialization Program in Medical Residence in Family and Community Medicine, of Rio Grande do Norte State University/Mossoró City Hall has its origin partnership links with the National Program of support to training of medical specialists in strategic areas, linked to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, through the Pro-residence edict aimed at opening and expansion of medical residence programs in priority areas in the country.

The goal of this program is to train professional people to work in the Unified Health System - SUS, especially in the Family Health Strategy, with a comprehensive vision and promotion practices, prevention and health protection.

Graduate Programs (sensulato)


Specialization Courses (sensu lato) are systematized and educational activities that are designed to train specialists in certain areas of knowledge, as well as to the transmission of new knowledge and technologies, respectively in order to raise the level of qualification and training human resources. The consolidation of this area is due to the efforts of the political construction of a university environment that is structured from initial programs and give continuity to the studies started in undergraduate courses.


These courses are characterized by qualitative condensate content that offers those who have completed undergraduate programs and meet the specific needs of each area of knowledge related to the dynamics of the profession with general characteristic that knowledge is demanding from undergraduate courses.


The articulated planning of these courses, combined with the need of professional qualification in present society, turns specialization a fast track to professional growth. In this aspect, PROPEG accompanies the development of projects for establishing such courses and seeks to combine in their work the ongoing effort to create opportunities for academic sectors to contribuite to regional development.


This academic capability expertise meets in the specialiaziton programs the starting point through which consolidated bases will flourish to improve the skills of the various areas of knowledge. The offering of these courses is subject to internal standards and criteria, as well as those established by the Ministry of Education.

EDITIONS UERN

The UERN Editions program subsidizes publications of books and journals in the University community. The Editorial Board selected annually at least 10 works for publication. All works are launched with certification (ISBN) from the National Library. In the case of newspapers, the record (ISSN) occurs from the Brazilian Institute of Science and Technology.

A new policy for creating journals has been discussed and structured, considering that this vehicle is the most important one as an indicator of productivity since its having qualis.

In addition to printed works and digital (e-book), there is the ongoing System Electronic Journal Publishing, a support system for periodical publications online for free.

Function

Centre for Studies and Research on the Environment and Regional Development of The Semi-Arid Area (Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas do Meio Ambiente e Desenvolvimento Regional do Semiárido-CEMAD) aims to studying issues relating to the environment and regional development, in an integrated way with other national and international institutions.

Among the activities that are carryed out, we have: to developing and to conduct research studies, to collaborate in research programs in areas related to CEMAD goals, to Support municipalities in the creation of Development and Environment Issues Councils ( Conselhos de Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente-CONDEMA) and the preparation of local development agendas, to support the implementation of environmental education programs and to enlarge environmental information service in the regional area in which UERN is located.
